Spider webs are absolutely charming in the right light, and a spritz of morning dew doesn't hurt. I had hauled out my big lens to again look for birbs in Discovery Park, and I found myself distracted by the magic these orb weavers had created. Gossamer is tricky for the autofocus to grab, but with a little manual assistance I got it there.
Farther up, at the top of the hill, I found the birbs I had come for. Bushtits were bouncing from branch to branch as usual, pecking at lunch even if the fruit was bigger than them. Out of the corner of my eye I caught something bright and yellow: the elusive Wilson's warbler! Not an uncommon bird, just difficult to track because they don't like sitting still, and this one only offered me a momentary glimpse before it ran off.
After a bit of a wander, spotting some wildflowers and an Anna's hummingbird resting high in the branches (last 2 photos), I investigated an unfamiliar song. A Bewick's wren was calling twi-twi-chi-chi-chi-chi over the meadows.
On my way back down the hill I was taking the direct route home when I ran into another feathered friend. Which will have to wait for my next post...
